Individual & Family Counselling

At Speech Bubbles, we recognise that a child's wellbeing is closely connected to the people and relationships around them. Parenting can be rewarding, but it can also bring unexpected challenges, particularly when navigating a child's developmental, learning or behavioural needs. While parents often prioritise their children's needs, their own wellbeing matters too.

Our counselling services provide a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space for children, parents, and families to navigate challenges, strengthen wellbeing and nurture meaningful relationships.

How We Can Help

Every individual and family has unique needs. We offer three main areas of support:

Parent & Caregiver Counselling

(Individual sessions)

We support parents and caregivers navigating stress, anxiety, low mood, grief, burnout, sleep difficulties and pressures related to parenting, finances or family relationships. Counselling provides space to process difficult experiences, better understand your own needs, explore how past experiences may shape your perspectives and responses, and develop greater self-compassion and healthier ways of coping.

Parenting Support & Family Therapy

(Joint sessions)

We support families navigating recurring conflicts, differences in parenting approaches, sibling relationship difficulties and challenges in responding to children's needs. Through parenting support and family therapy, we explore patterns of communication and interaction within the family, with the aim of strengthening mutual understanding, developing more consistent and responsive parenting approaches and nurturing healthier family relationships.

Sessions may involve both parents and other family members, depending on the family's needs.

Child & Adolescent Counselling

(Individual sessions)

We support neurodivergent and neurotypical children and adolescents experiencing anxiety, fears, low mood, grief, anger, low self-esteem, school-related stress, peer difficulties and family transitions. This includes siblings of neurodivergent children who may need support navigating their own experiences within the family. Through developmentally appropriate counselling approaches, we help children better understand their experiences, develop coping skills and navigate relationships with greater confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I know if I would benefit from caregiver counselling?

If you have been experiencing persistent stress, worry, sadness, exhaustion or difficulties coping with parenting and family demands, speaking with a counsellor may be helpful. You do not have to wait until you feel completely overwhelmed to seek support. Counselling also provides space to reflect on your experiences, better understand your own needs, and approach parenting challenges with greater awareness and compassion.

What is the difference between caregiver counselling and parent training?

Parent training typically focuses on equipping caregivers with practical strategies to support their child's communication, learning, development or behaviour.

Caregiver counselling, on the other hand, focuses on your emotional and psychological wellbeing. It provides a space to process difficult experiences, explore your emotional responses and strengthen your coping resources. Parenting consultations can also help you understand relationship patterns and develop more responsive ways of interacting with your child.

Depending on your needs, these services may complement one another.

Can both parents attend counselling or parenting consultations together?

Yes. When parenting differences, communication difficulties or recurring conflicts affect the way parents support their child, joint parenting or family consultations may be helpful. These sessions focus on strengthening collaboration and relationships within the family, with the child's wellbeing at the centre.

Will what I share during counselling be shared with the team at Speech Bubbles?

No. Counselling provides a safe and confidential space where you can share your thoughts, feelings and experiences openly, without fear of judgement. Even though we work within a multidisciplinary team, what you share during counselling will not automatically be disclosed to your child's therapists or other professionals at the centre.

Where collaboration with other therapists may be beneficial, we will discuss this with you and seek your consent before sharing relevant information. Confidentiality will be maintained in accordance with professional and ethical guidelines.

Can I attend counselling while my child is having therapy?

Where scheduling and room availability permit, we may be able to arrange concurrent appointments. This allows parents to receive support for their own wellbeing without having to make additional trips or arrange separate childcare.

Does my child need to be receiving therapy at Speech Bubbles for us to access counselling?

No. Our child, adolescent and caregiver counselling services are also available to individuals and families who are not currently receiving other therapies at Speech Bubbles.

How Have You Been Doing?

When caring for others, it can be easy to overlook your own wellbeing. Taking a moment to check in with yourself can be a helpful first step towards understanding your needs.

HealthHub's MindSG provides resources and free self-assessment tools to help you reflect on your mental wellbeing, stress, anxiety and mood.
